Statement on Senate Passage of Rescissions Package

Press Release Pic

Washington, D.C., July 17, 2025In response to the Senate’s passage of a rescissions package following a request from the Administration, the Shot@Life and United to Beat Malaria campaigns issued the following statement:

We are pleased that Congress voted to protect lifesaving global health programs from rescissions. These programs keep Americans safe and stop deadly diseases that threaten children around the world.

The recissions package approved today removes $400M in cuts to PEPFAR and protects funding for maternal and child health, nutrition, malaria, polio and other critical programs. A separate agreement preserving funding for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is welcome news for children’s health around the world.

We remain concerned that the package cuts funding for UNICEF, which vaccinates almost half the world’s children and delivers emergency aid to millions and for the World Health Organization, which has long worked to stop dangerous disease outbreaks before they can threaten our nation.

Global health programs protect U.S. health, economic, and security interests. We look forward to continuing to work with Congress and the Administration to strengthen these programs and ensure they continue to deliver for America.
