GFWC

Shot@Life partners with the General Federation of Women's Clubs to fundraise and provide life-saving vaccines to children across the globe.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs

is an international women’s organization founded in 1890. With over 100,000 members in all 50 U.S. states and several countries, GFWC volunteers have donated their time, effort, and millions of dollars towards issues such as the conservation of the arts, preservation of natural resources, and the advancement of education, health, and civic involvement.

GFWC members are encouraged to join a training with Shot@Life to speak up for global childhood immunization.

During this 45-minute remote training, you will learn about Shot@Life’s work and the tools and tips for advocating to members of Congress and local community leaders about global immunization programs. Attendees will then be eligible to join Shot@Life for future virtual and in-person Summits.

Note: Registered attendees will receive a link to view the recording if unable to attend live.

Join the training on Tuesday, September 3 at 7 pm ET

Get Involved

During the pandemic, 67 million children around the world missed out on routine immunization, and 1 in 6 children still do not have access to the lifesaving vaccines they need. Through education, fundraising, and building relationships with congressional offices, you can use your voice to protect children in the hardest to reach places. Vaccines currently help save a child’s life every 8 seconds.

Shot@Life works on some of the deadliest diseases for children under age five, including polio, measles, pneumonia, and diarrheal disease. In particular, measles is concerning as it is one of the most contagious diseases. Measles still kills children in large numbers—more than 136,000 children died of measles in 2022, a worrying increase in recent years attributed to declining vaccination rates. For only $5, a child can receive the two doses they need to be protected against the disease for life. Since 2000, measles vaccines are estimated to have averted 57 million deaths.

What can you and your club do?

Fundraising & Donating: GFWC’s Measles Mission

GFWC and Shot@Life have challenged clubwomen across the country to help protect 16,000 children with lifesaving measles vaccines between 2024–2026 by raising funds for UNICEF and the World Health Organization. You can donate as an individual or fundraise by getting your club, friends, and family to donate. Instead of a $5 cup of coffee, you can help protect a child for life against measles. Or, give $25 to help protect an entire family.

Check out the new fundraising hub, where you can find resources, join your state page, and directly donate (there is a box to include your club name): shotatlife.org/gfwc-measles

If you/your club prefer to send a check, please address it to Shot@Life, 1750 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Ste. 300, Washington D.C. 20006. Please be sure to put “Shot@Life Measles” in the memo line. To make sure your club gets credit for the donation, you can also include a separate note in the envelope or send us an email (champions@shotatlife.org) with your club name.

Advocacy

Whether you have 5 minutes or an hour, you can advocate for the children’s health. Advocacy is the most important thing we can do to unlock millions of dollars for child immunization programs. This can include:

  • Signing the petition, which will send emails to your members of Congress, and then sharing the link with your club. The newest petition can always be found at shotatlife.org/petition.
  • Putting aside 10 minutes of a club meeting to call your congressional offices together. Find the call instructions and script at bit.ly/salcalls.
  • Joining a live 45-minute training webinar right from your computer. Sign up at shotatlife.org/training. We can also host an individualized training for your club.
  • Attending a Champion Summit to hear from amazing speakers and connect with other advocates. We host a virtual fall Summit and an in-person spring Summit in Washington D.C.

Please keep in mind that we have resources and materials for all activities and have a range of options for individuals and clubs to be involved as little or as much as they want throughout the year! We can also send materials for your club meetings, state conventions, or regional conferences. Reach out to champions@shotatlife.org with any questions or requests. To be able to recognize all the work you/your club do for Shot@Life, please be sure to report your efforts at shotatlife.org/report
