Washington, D.C., September 19, 2025Shot@Life and United to Beat Malaria jointly issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of State’s new America First Global Health Strategy:

“We welcome the Administration’s strong commitment to strengthening disease surveillance and ending polio, malaria and other deadly diseases.

The America First Global Health Strategy affirms the value of America’s global health programs that have saved millions of lives around the world and made our nation safer, stronger and more prosperous.

It offers a valuable roadmap to build from – marshalling the combined power of lifesaving work like the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) and the polio eradication program to prevent and treat disease, while strengthening health systems around the world.

The Strategy supports frontline commodity purchases and frontline healthcare workers. It sets bold and welcome goals to eradicate wild polio by 2028 and to slash malaria mortality by 90% by 2030.

The Global Fund, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, UNICEF and WHO can play a essential role in advancing the Strategy and accomplishing its ambitious goals. These organizations have a strong, proven track record of delivering results and unique expertise in pooled procurement, last mile delivery and much more.

We look forward to working with the State Department and Congress to advance successful global health programs that save lives, keep Americans safe, while saving millions of lives and furthering our nation’s interests around the world.”
