The Shot@Life campaign applauds the introduction of House Resolution 1286 in support of Gavi’s critical work expanding access to vaccines around the world, and thanks Representatives Thomas Kean (R-NJ), Gabriel Amo (D-RI), Maria Salazar (R-FL), and Sara Jacobs (D-CA) for their leadership.
Since its inception in 2000, Gavi investments have helped countries vaccinate more than one billion children, preventing more than 17 million deaths while strengthening the health systems of 78 countries. As Gavi continues to expand its portfolio of vaccines to combat new health threats, continuing bipartisan support for its next five-year strategic period is essential.
In a joint statement, Martha Rebour, Executive Director of Shot@Life, and Margaret Reilly McDonnell, Executive Director of United to Beat Malaria, said, “We applaud H.Res. 1286 in support of Gavi’s lifesaving work, and we thank Representatives Kean, Amo, Jacobs, and Salazar for their leadership. By immunizing children in low-income countries, Gavi plays an essential role in protecting the most vulnerable children from preventable diseases and strengthens global health security, protecting Americans at home and abroad. We urge Congress to continue to provide strong, bipartisan support for Gavi so that it can continue to carry out its critical mission.”
