Shot@Life’s 11th Year in Partnership with Walgreens

This September marks the eleventh consecutive year that Shot@Life and Walgreens are teaming up for the Get a Shot. Give a Shot.® program, made to provide lifesaving vaccines to children across the globe. From September 1 until December 31, 2023, every vaccine administered at a Walgreens or Duane Reade pharmacy is matched by a donation of a measles or polio vaccine. These vaccines are administered to children in vulnerable areas with little healthcare access.

The Campaign’s Progress

Since the beginning of the Get a Shot. Give a Shot.® campaign, more than 80 million lifesaving vaccinations have been delivered to children around the world. This year is a particularly special milestone, as the program moves closer to reaching its goal of 100 million immunizations by 2024. Measles and polio vaccines have been distributed in more than fifteen countries and counting since 2013, in collaboration with UN agencies like the World Health Organization and UNICEF. Additionally, Shot@Life and Walgreens have worked to increase U.S. public awareness about inequities in global immunization.

Now more than ever, vaccine equity is of utmost importance. The COVID-19 pandemic led to setbacks in the global immunization landscape, but efforts are continually underway to get back on track. Global immunization services reached 4 million more children last year than compared to the year before. Despite this improvement, 20.5 million children still missed out on one or more routine vaccines delivered in 2022, a figure higher than pre-pandemic levels (WHO).

Get Your Flu Shots!

The best way for individuals and families to help protect themselves from vaccine-preventable illness is to ensure routine immunizations. Programs like Get a Shot. Give a Shot.® exist to ensure all children can access vaccines against deadly diseases, no matter where they live.

Now it’s time to do your part! For every immunization given at Walgreens or Duane Reade, Walgreens donates the value of a measles or polio vaccine through Shot@Life, up to $2.6 million.
