For the ninth consecutive year, Shot@Life and Walgreens are teaming up for the Get a Shot. Give a Shot. program to help provide lifesaving vaccines to children around the world.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that vaccines are more important than ever, making programs like Get a Shot. Give a Shot. so vital in ensuring vaccines get to those who need it both domestically and globally,” says Martha Rebour, Shot@Life’s Executive Director. “We are thrilled to partner again with Walgreens this flu season, allowing Walgreens customers to protect their own health while protecting children around the world from vaccine-preventable diseases.”

Beginning September 1 until December 31, 2021, for every immunization given at a Walgreens or Duane Reade store or clinic, Walgreens donates the value of a measles or polio vaccine through Shot@Life, up to $2.6 million. Since its inception, the Get a Shot. Give a Shot.® program has helped provide more than 70 million lifesaving vaccines to children around the world and has committed to reaching 100 million immunizations by 2024.

Where We’ve Been

In our ninth year, the program expanded internationally to Walgreens’ Boots Norway locations, helping to secure more vaccines for children worldwide.

In November 2020, our Get a Shot. Give a Shot.® program also won the “Health and Wellness” category in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s 2020 Citizens Awards — one of the most prominent corporate social responsibility recognitions in the United States. The awards highlight how businesses are helping solve today’s greatest challenges and spearheading the transformation to a strong, healthy, and sustainable future.

Where We’re Going

There has never been a more important time for vaccine equity. Because of the pandemic, 23 million children have missed out on routine immunizations (WHO). While we continue our efforts to stop the spread of one disease, we need to ensure we don’t lose progress against other vaccine-preventable diseases.

The best way for individuals and families to help protect themselves, their loved ones, and their communities from vaccine-preventable illnesses is to ensure routine immunizations are equally distributed around the world. Programs such as Get a Shot. Give a Shot. ® help children and communities obtain access to vaccines against deadly diseases like polio and measles.

Together through our partnership, Shot@Life and Walgreens have committed to help address the global issue of 1.5 million child deaths a year from vaccine-preventable diseases and increase public awareness in the U.S. of the importance of vaccines.
