Thanks to the steadfast leadership of the United States and global partners, a disease that paralyzed over 350,000 children per year in the 1980s has been cornered: last year there were only 32 cases of polio, localized in just two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan. By signing on to the FY20 Senate and House Polio Eradication Dear Colleague letters, our elected officials pledged to maintain current levels of funding for vital polio eradication activities at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
