This week, the Board of Directors for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, approved a measles and rubella strategy that will make huge strides in reducing childhood mortality.
This new strategy includes an additional $220 million in funding from 2016-2020, supporting 54 of the world’s poorest counties by expanding access to mass immunization campaigns, strengthening routine immunization systems, and providing support to respond to outbreaks.
Shot@Life has been committed to support both Gavi and the Measles & Rubella Initiative since we launched in 2012 and we look forward to this new commitment to reducing childhood deaths from measles.
In 2014, more than 300 children died each day from measles. It will take many partners coming together to solve this problem. Gavi estimates their commitment will save an additional 320,000 lives and that is something we can all get behind.
