One Billion Reasons to Say Thanks: Gavi Berlin Conference

Today, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance hosted their replenishment conference in Berlin. This summit brought together global donors to pledge money to help Gavi fund their life-saving work from 2016 -2020.

I am thrilled to announce that the U.S. made a historic commitment of $1 billion over four years, including $200 million for fiscal year 2015! With this, and other commitments made today, Gavi exceeded its goal. In total, $7.5 billion was raised to immunize an additional 300 million children and save 5-6 million lives!

Shot@Life would like to commend President Obama and the U.S. government for this commitment. The U.S. was one of Gavi’s original six donors and has already contributed $1.4 billion through 2015. The additional funding will help Gavi reach children most in need and strengthen Gavi’s ability to contribute to the U.S. government’s goal of ending preventable child deaths worldwide.

I also would like to take a moment and show my appreciation to you, our amazing supporters. You advocated for Gavi by calling and meeting with your elected officials, writing letters of support and signing petitions—and they listened! Thank you for standing up for children around the globe.

There’s still more work to be done, but today, we are ever closer to reaching every child with life-saving vaccines.
