Walgreens and United Nations Foundation have teamed up since 2013 on Get a Shot. Give a Shot,®, a campaign that is helping provide 100 million lifesaving vaccines to children in need around the world by 2024. For every flu shot or other immunization administered at a Walgreens pharmacy, including Duane Reade and Walgreens-owned Rite-Aid stores, Walgreens will help provide a vaccine to a child in need through the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign.
In less than a decade, the program has grown to an annual donation of $2.6 million, enabling Walgreens to help provide 11 million vaccines each year. More than 60 million measles and polio vaccines have been provided to children in 15+ countries. The program has played a vital role in saving lives and increasing immunization rates in the Middle East, Central Africa and Asia. This award-winning partnership has helped provide vaccines to children in developing countries such as Bhutan, Chad, Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, East Timor, Sudan, and Tanzania.
In Fall 2020, Walgreens’ parent company, Walgreens Boots Alliance’s Norwegian business, Boots apotek launched the Get a Shot. Give a Shot. program’s expansion in Europe. Now, the value of a vaccine is donated for every immunization administered at a Boots pharmacy in Norway.
