Meet Our Team: Inés

If you’ve seen our most recent social media posts or had a reply from a Shot@Life account on social media, chances are it was Inés responding! Inés is our Communications Associate. While the communications team is very much “all hands on deck”, Inés is primarily focused on digital media. She graduated from American University last year, where she studied international relations and communications. However, her passion for the work of the UN Foundation stems back to when she was in high school.

How long have you been with Shot@Life?

I’ve been with Shot@Life for almost 6 months!

What has been your favorite moment since joining the team?

My favorite moment was our 2018 Champion Summit. I loved getting to finally meet all the hardworking Shot@Life Champions in person. Moreover, it was such a great opportunity to brainstorm ways to further improve our communications strategy, and we were able to feed off the energy of our champions. Lastly, it was very exciting to see that the summit was able to get “#VaccinesWork” trending on Twitter in the Washington, D.C area!

What do you think the biggest challenge is for vaccine advocacy?

It can be hard to advocate for something that can so easily be taken for granted. Fortunately, most children in the United States, along with their parents, do not have to think twice about access to vaccines. Vaccines are usually in reach and at an affordable price across the United States. However, we often forget that not all children have access to vaccines, or a local pediatrician or health worker. It can be challenging to make that connection between a child in the U.S and a child in a remote village across the globe.

What do you wish people knew about Shot@Life/Vaccines/Advocacy?

I wish everyone would know that even if you can’t dedicate more than a few hours a week, you can still be an advocate. You can still champion for children worldwide and have your voice heard in Congress through speaking up and joining forces with others to advocate for what you’re passionate about.

What excites you most about your work?

I love being able to communicate with people across the world that are passionate about advocating for child health. Moreover, I am always excited to share the stories we hear and collect from the field, so supporters and champions can see their efforts are paying off! Being a storyteller for this team and the people we work with on the field is inspirational.

What’s a fun fact about you that our champions may not know?

My whole childhood I did musical theater in NYC. It was a passion of mine, and many of my peers took their passions even further and went pro! Years later I still love to go to shows at the theater I performed with, and most recently we celebrated our alum Jordan Peele’s Oscar win!
