YOU are the Champions
February 2, 2012 BY Caroline Barrett
Earlier this week, doctors, teachers, parents, students, bloggers, small-business owners and community leaders traveled from around the country to attend the first-ever Shot@Life Champion Summit.
About halfway through the first day, Nicole Melancon, a mom from Minnesota, asked, “What does the word champion mean here anyway? Are we champions for Shot@Life?”
Well, we would certainly say so! Nicole and the 44 other individuals who traveled from across the country spent two days learning about global vaccines and brainstorming how to make Shot@Life super-successful.
And we did more than just talk; at the end of the Summit our new Champions announced their own plans to spread the word about Shot@Life. Marilyn Zaragoza, a Florida teacher and 2011 Parenting Mom Congress delegate, plans to ask her high school students to donate $1 to Shot@Life to skip their last class of the day – time they’ll use to learn about global vaccines and Shot@Life! LaShaun Martin, who owns and operates a rhinestone clothing line, Shootie Girl, has pledged a portion of her sales to Shot@Life. Jenny Lucas from Texas will host a “Girls Night In” to teach her friends about global vaccines. And Myrdin Thompson, a community leader from Louisville, Kentucky, will run a 5K to raise funds for Shot@Life.
So yes, our Champions are rockstars, winners and forces to be reckoned with. They are the heart and soul of this campaign, and the reason our campaign will be successful in saving and improving the lives of children. From all of us at Shot@Life: thank you for your commitment – and let’s get to work!
