I had a very charmed childhood. It was full of the normal childhood angst: fights with friends, heartbreak over boys, and frustration about my hair. But it was relatively trauma-free. I grew up in a good home. I was never abused. No one close to me ever died. We never struggled with money. I had everything I needed. Not everything I wanted (hello, Easy Bake Oven, someday you will be mine.) But my childhood was happy and content.

This year my daughter is 27 years old and today is the 27th of August. That is no coincidence for sharing events in her life. I have written, albeit inconsistently, about her life since I started blogging almost 9 years ago. When I began, she was in high school...

I remember polio drops as a child. We stood in line at the elementary school to get the Salk vaccines. We all knew someone who had the debilitating disease and at one point thought it had also claimed my brother. The promise of a life free of polio was a miracle then, and it is today around the world where we have virtually eradicated this disease. We are nearly there: we have to win this battle!
