Happy New Year from Shot@Life!
January 5, 2013 BY Devi R. Thomas
What a year! Since the official launch of the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign in April, we have trained hundreds of grassroots Champions, held dynamic events in more than five cities, garnered many new partnerships, launched our new mobile app to track childhood milestones, sent a remarkable delegation to Uganda to witness a Family Health Day, launched the first hugely successful Blogust relay saving over 10,000 lives, and all the while working toward making sure every child has access to life-saving vaccines.
We look forward to another productive year, starting with our Champion Summit in February, a Partners Summit in March, an eventful World Immunization Week in April to celebrate our first birthday, more city tours throughout the country, another Blogust relay, and working with partners in the global effort to eradicate polio. Together we will work to help protect children worldwide by providing immunizations for preventable diseases where they are most needed.
So before things get too hectic, I’d like to introduce the outstanding Shot@Life team I have the pleasure of working with every day.
As Director, I am the lead on campaign strategy, partner strategy and building our movement of supporters with a primary goal of helping to reduce vaccine-preventable deaths worldwide. I speak about Shot@Life at conferences and events across the country. The following people help me to keep up our momentum and implement this dynamic movement:
Maggie Carter, Deputy Director: Maggie manages the day-to-day team, in addition to conferences, events, and partnerships. She is our resident sports enthusiast and always has the latest stats on college ball or quarterbacks.
Christie Albrecht, Partnerships Officer: While managing all partnerships, Christie also works to facilitate new relationships with potential partners. Christie is a guitar player and singer who recently moved from Missouri and now calls DC her home.
Tina Musoke, Senior Communications Officer: Tina’s goal is to get media of all sorts familiar with Shot@Life’s work and mission by providing stories and content. She is often seen behind a purple Snuggie in her office with a bottle of Fanta. She is from Uganda and calls it the best country in the world!
Kimberly Sutton, Senior Advocacy Associate: Kim is our point-person on all things advocacy: she works hard to get global health policy recognized on the Hill. She is often seen at the gym and encourages her husband and dog to wear Shot@Life gear when they are out and about – all types of advocacy count!
Hilary Saverin, Campaign Associate: Hilary supports our partnerships and fundraising initiatives, as well as our celebrity engagement, and represents Shot@Life at many of our conferences around the country. She is an avid marathoner and knitter and recently completed an ultra-marathon.
Elise Glaum, Online Communications Associate: Keeping us current on all forms of social media, Elise updates and manages our Facebook, Twitter, our website, blog, and even our new mobile app! She is our resident health food champion and grew up in Germany. She is a Virginia Tech alumna and former competitive swimmer.
Jamie Whalen, Campaign Associate: Jamie is the primary liaison with our grassroots Champions; she’s currently busy planning our 2013 Champion Summit in Washington! She is a big Florida Gators fan and a former competitive Irish dancer.
Lee Orr, Campaign Administrative Assistant: Managing the contract and payment processes, Lee also supports the team with event logistics, observation trip arrangements, and budget tracking. She is a proud Kenyon College graduate and an avid Steelers fan.
Meg Cleghorn, Campaign Intern: Meg supports our team with anything and everything from conferences, meetings, and observation trips to blogger fellowships and materials inventory. She recently graduated from Furman University in South Carolina. She loves chocolate and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
The entire team is beyond excited for the busy year ahead – and we’re so grateful to have supporters like you to ensure that every child around the world has a shot at a healthy life.
